Belgrade public transport price – sms ticket
Understanding the cost of public transport is crucial for budget-conscious travelers and residents alike. In general, prices in Belgrade are mostly affordable and this also applies to public transport. One of the many advantages of public transport in the city is the fact that it is completely free from 00h-04h.
As of the latest information, Belgrade’s public transport system operates on a zone-based fare structure. Single tickets are available for purchase, as well as daily, weekly, and monthly passes, providing flexibility for different travel needs. These tickets are valid for all public transportation including Belgrade buses, trams, trolleys and others.
Tickets can be purchased by SMS message and, as there are no ticket readers, SMS confirmation is the only proof of purchase, so make sure to save the confirmation text. For this, you will need a Serbian SIM card using which you should send a SMS message to 9011. The price depends on the length of the ride and the zone you are in. In the table below you can find all ticket options (ticket is valid for 90 minutes):

Mobile app – Beograd Plus and Moovit
Two popular apps, Beograd Plus and Moovit, have emerged as go-to solutions for navigating the city’s extensive public transport network. The former is an official app of the city of Belgrade while Moovit can be used in any city. For this you should use a Serbian SIM Card and Mobile Data as they offer the best user prices.
Beograd Plus boasts an intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it easy for users to plan their routes with minimal effort. The app provides a clear and concise layout, ensuring that even first-time users can quickly grasp its functionality. Stay up-to-date with real-time information on bus and tram arrivals, allowing you to plan your journey more efficiently.
There are two ways to see where the vehicle is in real time. Every bus stop in Belgrade has its own name and number. You can enter either the number or the name of the bus stop in the search box in the Beograd Plus app. It will then show you the distance of the vehicles stopping at your stop, indicating the number of stops and the expected wait time. The app also provides you with a map showing all stops and vehicles currently driving towards you.
On the other hand, Moovit is a globally recognized app, offering transit information for cities around the world. If you’re a frequent traveler, Moovit may be the ideal choice for a consistent experience across different locations. It combines various transportation modes to provide the most efficient route for your trip.
Moovit relies on crowdsourced data from users, ensuring that real-time information is accurate and reliable. This app allows you to enter your current address and the address of the place you want to go. Moovit then calculates the best route for you based on all the information about the city’s infrastructure. It will suggest several routes and estimated time of arrival for each option. When you choose one of them, it will lead you to your destination in detailed steps in real time.

Belgrade City Transport’s infrastructure includes various modes of transportation, each playing a crucial role in connecting different parts of the city and making commuting more accessible for residents and visitors alike.
Belgrade buses
Belgrade’s extensive bus network is the backbone of the city’s public transportation system. A fleet of buses operates on a vast network of routes, covering both the urban center and suburban areas. These cover every part of Belgrade, from the city center to suburban areas.
Belgrade bus ticket
As we’ve discussed previously, in Belgrade, purchasing tickets for the public transportation system can be done in various ways to accommodate all types of travelers. As of recent updates, the “Belgrade plus” system has been introduced, which allows passengers to buy tickets via SMS or using paper forms.
This is especially convenient as there are no card readers on the vehicles themselves, so passengers must keep their SMS confirmation or paper ticket as proof of purchase.
Belgrade tram system
Trams have been an integral part of Belgrade’s public transport system for decades. They weave through the city’s streets, offering a reliable and efficient means of transportation. Trams in Belgrade are particularly popular for short to medium-distance journeys within the city center, providing a comfortable and scenic ride.
Suburban railway
The suburban railway network in Belgrade connects the city with its surrounding areas, offering a convenient mode of transportation for residents in the outskirts. These trains provide a reliable means for daily commuters traveling to and from the city center. There are strategically connected railway stations, such as Zemun, Novi Beograd, and Rakovica rail station, which is located near a Shopping mall in Rakovica. The mall features popular brand stores, a movie theater, and various other amenities.
Belgrade trolley
Belgrade’s trolleybus system combines the flexibility of buses with the environmental benefits of electric transportation. These vehicles run on electricity supplied through overhead wires, offering a sustainable alternative for commuters. Trolleybuses are well-integrated into the city’s transport network, covering various routes and ensuring connectivity.

Enjoy the convenience of cashless transactions and the ability to track your driver in real-time. CarGo offers its users three options for transportation – mini, ecco and business. Mini class is the most affordable and pet friendly.
Ecco class, as the name suggests, prioritizes environmental sustainability. It also offers car seats for kids and bigger vehicles than mini class. Business class consists of cars exclusively powered by electricity and is the most expensive of all options, but it’s the best for the environment.
